Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
