Approximately twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events swept through the region, producing strong winds hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Hailstones and Widespread Impact

Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks measuring up to seven centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Response teams were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the extensive power failures.

Victorian Weather Woes

At the same time, around one thousand energy customers in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 emergency reports across the region, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• The Werribee area - experienced considerable destruction
• Hoppers Crossing area - various emergency calls
• Wyndham area - over 175 calls for assistance

At one point on yesterday, over 28k electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.

This warning comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the region.
